Tarot Stories

A while back I purchased an eBook from Biddy Tarot called Tarot Foundations.  I like that it’s in eBook format because I get to put it in my Kindle and take it with me wherever I go.  However due to other priorities I haven’t really been able to do much more than read it.  This is more like a workbook than a book that lays all the meanings down for you.  It provides activities to help deepen your understanding of the tarot.  There are a lot of good ideas including creating a keyword chart (really gonna have to work to find time for this one) but I thought I’d enjoy part of the last day of my four day weekend doing one of the activities, albeit out of order.

This exercise is about focusing on the imagery and symbolism on the cards to create a story about what is happening in the cards, thereby integrating apparent images with intuited rationalization.  I was supposed to choose three cards randomly.  With the first card I’m supposed to write about it using the Scene – Action – Outcome – Moral formula to build a story from the card.  With the second card I’m supposed to write a fairytale story starting with “Once upon a time…”  And finally with the last card I’m supposed to write a story about myself using my present day circumstances, writing about work, a relationship, an event, or even make believe.  While I think this activity is wonderful in theory, I’m pretty daunted by actually doing it.  Oh well, here goes!

Introducing: My Nefertari Tarot Deck

leave a comment »

I purchased this deck months ago and also did a divination using the same spread that I used with my Anubis Oracle Deck, but for some reason never got around to fully interpreting the results and posting it on the blog.  I think it’s about high time I did that, considering I’ve been wanting to develop my tarot reading skills, so now I’ll be posting my results here along with my interpretations of the cards that came up in the spread.  I’ll be using the same spread provided by Dusken at her blog as I did last time.  Here are the primary cards that came up:

Nefertari Tarot: The World (21)

leave a comment »

For an introduction to the 78 days of tarot project, please click here.

Visual Card Description:  Geb and Nut are pictured, being pushed apart by Shu.*  Some hieroglyphs are also featured in the background.

Free Association:  Tension, Unseen Forces, Separation, Heartbreak, Hard Decisions, Support, Eternal Love, Opportunities, Fulfillment

Rider-Waite/Traditional Associations:  The World can signify that you are figuratively feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders, which is not an easy place to be. It’s an excellent time to review how well you do at "asking for help" when you need it. Remember you don’t have to do everything on your own.

This can often be a card of completion. You’ve worked hard, and you are almost to the "finish line" in some way. Don’t quit now that you’re almost finished! You’re almost definitely in need of some well deserved rest and relaxation; don’t be afraid to take it. You are getting closer to "who you really are," at your deepest levels.

Meaning from the lwb (little white book that came with this deck):  Perfection, full result, achievement of any enterprise and reward. Inheritance, present, unexpected promotion.

My interpretation:  This card can mean two different things.  There are some very hard decisions being made for you for which you suffer, but at the same time, the results will open a whole new world of possibility and enrichment.  The support and happiness you felt that was taken away will have to change into a different type of feeling, but it won’t disappear completely.  This will feed your strength for any trials to come.  Meanwhile, the fruits of your labors will be abundant.

Nefertari Tarot: Judgment (20)

leave a comment »

For an introduction to the 78 days of tarot project, please click here.

Visual Card Description:  An upright mummy is being supported by a priest from behind.  On all sides are hieroglyphs.  Above them there is the winged sundisk.*

Free Association:  Reckoning, Reflection, New Life, Personal Trials, Beginning of a Journey, Transformation

Rider-Waite/Traditional Associations:  Judgment can be a card about jumping to conclusions, decisions and judgments. which are too hastily made. If you are prone to such things, this is a clear signal to slow down and give things more thought and to give people "more chances." This can be a real time of spiritual awakening.

In general, if you are the one tending to jump to conclusions, you can put a stop to it. If others are making these kinds of decisions about you or about someone you care for, there is really very little you can do, apart from realizing that it’s their problem, not yours.

Meaning from the lwb (little white book that came with this deck):  Change of position, moral renewal, birth, awakening, examination of one’s conscience.  Moment of transition towards an improvement, recovery both of physical and intellectual energies.  Here it is represented by the process of mummification, fundamental requirement for the spiritual rebirth of dead.

My interpretation:  This is the time one must prepare for a reckoning.  Each detail should be checked, and one must be prepared.  When one cannot do it for themselves, others will be there to help.  This is the time to shed your old skin and be ready for a new beginning.  The outcome depends on how you’ve behaved prior to this moment.

Nefertari Tarot: The Sun (19)

leave a comment »

For an introduction to the 78 days of tarot project, please click here.

Visual Card Description:  The Aten* is pictured, its rays coming down as hands to caress a man kneeling in adoration below it.  There are hieroglyphs in the upper right corner.

Free Association:  Favour, Harmony, Happiness, Shining From Within, Blessings

Rider-Waite/Traditional Associations:  When the Sun card shows for you, it’s a sign that soon you are likely to find yourself feeling more free than you have in a while – maybe years. This is a great time to take a vacation and to experience different things. The Sun is about vitality, freedom, joy, and self-expression.

Things in general are very likely to be going very well for you. However, even though finances are likely to be in good shape when this card appears, that does not mean that you should lose focus on what is truly important in life, and money is not very high on that list. This is a good time to socialize, to meet new people, and to get out and about.

Meaning from the lwb (little white book that came with this deck):  Harmony, friendship, serenity, sincerity in feelings, happiness, love, satisfaction.  Positive period, solution of problems, artistic flash of inspiration.  Faithful collaborators, glory, honour, celebrity.

My interpretation:   The Aten here symbolizes cosmic providence and benevolence, as without the sun, nothing would exist.  This is the signifier of a good and blessed period.  Under this influence things will come out in your favor.  Don’t waste this good omen on trivial matters.

Nefertari Tarot: The Moon (18)

leave a comment »

For an introduction to the 78 days of tarot project, please click here.

Visual Card Description:  The moon is partially obscured by clouds.  Below it are two pyramids, the left one is black and the right one is white.  In the foreground there are two jackals resting on a bier, one black, one white, both wearing red ribbons around their necks.

Free Association:  Mystery, Entrance Into the Underworld, Ascension, Trial, Personal Transformation

Rider-Waite/Traditional Associations:  The Moon indicates that things may seem somewhat confusing to you now. You may find it hard to understand where you are coming from, much less what others are thinking and feeling! You need to try to sit with the uncertainty, don’t try to force things or people to do things before they are ready. This card is the "Pisces" of the tarot deck.

You are definitely in a more psychic and intuitive phase than usual, so it will be important for you to trust your instincts and your impressions, even if you don’t know where they are coming from. Also, not that you need to be mistrusting, but it will be helpful for you to realize that when this card appears, it’s possible that all is not what it seems. If you feel you can’t trust someone, then you probably can’t. Go with your gut. If you are waiting on an answer from someone, it may, unfortunately, take longer than you would like for it to. Try to stay patient.

Meaning from the lwb (little white book that came with this deck):  Visions, oddness, illusions, mistakes due to imagination.  Travel over the water, long and difficult researches.  Strange meetings.  Attraction for the unknown, occultism, adventure.

My interpretation:  You are about to enter into some of the mysteries that can only be accessed by intuition.  These may be confusing for you since you were previously unaware of their existence.  They may enrich how you view your world, but there may be a tendency to grab it and run with it, thereby taking these new understandings into extremes.  Temper your ideas with some realism.  While these ideas may feed your inner need for mystery, they may also obstruct you from seeing things only as they are.  Patience is key.  Let the ideas develop at their own pace.

Nefertari Tarot: The Star (17)

leave a comment »

For an introduction to the 78 days of tarot project, please click here.

Visual Card Description:  A nude woman kneels in water and holds two feathers* (possibly those of Ma’at) in her upraised hands.  She wears a headdress of the sun disk flanked by uraei, which symbolizes the Eye of Ra.*  She is surrounded by stars.

Free Association:  Cycles, Recalling the Past, Divine Guidance/Protection, Balance

Rider-Waite/Traditional Associations:  When the Star appears, you are likely to find yourself feeling rather inspired. You will be feeling more hopeful about the future, and more confident that your needs – whether these are emotional or financial needs or both – will be met. This is also a very spiritual card. You may find yourself for a time feeling at one with all of creation. Savor it.

This card is a definite good omen. You are probably already inclined to be thinking positively; this is a time to do so specifically. What are the changes that you would like to make or see in your life? Make a list. You can accomplish nearly anything that you set out to do now. Think big.

Meaning from the lwb (little white book that came with this deck):  Faith, hope, inspired grace, good and favourable omen.  Happy conclusion, good results.  Brilliant ideas, effective advice, uninterested help.

My interpretation:   The hour is right, the akhu and the netjeru have blessed you, and Ma’at is on your side.  This card is a symbol of blessing and hope.  The possibilities within the Nun are at your disposal.
