Visual Card Description:  A female wearing a crown with cow horns, a sun disk, and two ostrich feathers and combined with a tripartite Hathor/Hwt-Hrw wig sits facing the left.  This crown is worn by queens from the late 18th Dynasty onward, and is typically paired with a uraei-kalathos, however in this version the uraei are connected to another sun disk in front of the Empress, warding off danger and offering her protection and life.* (as symbolized by the ankh below them)  She also wears a broad gold collar and a white, transparent gown.  She rests her right hand on a vase that holds a blue lotus (symbolizing life and regeneration), while her left hand holds up a flowering reed.

Free association: Royal, Mother, Wisdom, Divine Protection

Rider-Waite/Traditional Associations:  The Empress is an archetype of feminine power; she is watery, hard to fathom, mysterious, fertile, and sexual. She augurs a need for us to be in touch with our feminine side, to listen to our intuition, and to give priority to our emotions and passions. She can signify coming abundance.

People are going to be more attracted to you than usual (in every sense) and you are likely to find people on your doorstep, wanting your advice/your shoulder to cry on. This will be beneficial to you because you are now going to be able to see yourself more in the way that others see you – as someone with wisdom, and a lot to offer. So share your hard-won perspectives on life, know that your wisdom and caring is valuable.

Meaning from the lwb (little white book that came with this deck):  Intelligence, comprehension and beneficial influence.  Action, initiative.  The woman, the mother, fertility.  Authoritative but kind person, resolutive help.

My interpretation:  The crown is meant to associate the empress with the maturity and beauty, yet also with the harsh rays of the solar eye as Hathor/Hwt-Hrw.  This is also echoed with the uraei- they are both regenerative and destructive.*  The empress is the archetype for female power, beautiful and fierce.  She can be both empathetic (receiving the energies of others) and passionate (projecting her own energies and desires outwards).  This card urges the seeker to find a balance between these two qualities.
